Red Sky Cafe & Coffeehouse

Red Sky Café & Coffeehouse emanates the luscious aromas and cozy atmosphere you hope to find when you want to begin or end your day with a delicious cup of coffee. What you quickly realize about this coffeehouse, though, is that there's a whole lot more going on than a cup of Joe and some pastries. Red Sky offers a new brand of coffee with a humanitarian twist and provides some of the best comfort food around.

Previously, the coffeehouse had been overshadowed by the restaurant, but now it’s back with a new line of coffee, Café Campesino. This organic, shade-grown 100 percent Fair Trade (meaning an equitable and fair partnership between consumers in North America and producers in other countries) coffee comes from farmer cooperatives in South America. Buy it by the cup, half pound or pound and enjoy a sumptuous treat for the nose and the taste buds.

Red Sky Café owners and sisters Cathy Holderfield and Lynn Tankersley take breakfast seriously (not to mention lunch and dinner, but we'll get to that shortly). Top-quality breakfast biscuit sandwiches are the name of the game. Or, if you want something a little more exotic, try one of their three breakfast panini's like the egg, sun-dried tomato and feta panini on sourdough bread. Delicious scones, muffins and cinnamon rolls also are on the menu for a quick treat. If you’re on the run, all of the breakfast items can be served up quickly through the drive-thru.

Stop by for lunch or dinner with friends and just try to choose from a menu that challenges the culinary imagination. For instance, Tankersley's pimento cheese sandwich is like nothing I'd ever tasted before, and I'm a good old southern girl. This sandwich is beefed up with bits of jalapenos, toasted pecans and grilled to a lovely golden brown perfection. It’s served with a side of strawberry preserves for just the right touch of sweetness.

Chef Chris Price also cooks up a mouthwatering Angus beef steak smothered in a mushroom brown gravy sauce, with onions and peppers. Price is always experimenting with new combinations and plans to change the menu at least twice a month.

So stop by and find out why customers have no problem waiting a little bit longer for some great food and fantastic company. And if you ever wonder how the Red Sky Café & Coffeehouse got its unusual name, take in a sunset one evening and the answer will become abundantly clear.
