Golf Classic to Benefit Boys & Girls Club
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) announces its fourth annual Paul Hewitt Golf Classic to be held Tuesday, August 21, at Chateau Elan in Braselton. Proceeds from the Classic will benefit BGCMA Club locations in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties.
Paul Hewitt, head coach, Georgia Tech men’s basketball says he’s pleased to be associated with BGCMA, “Their efforts bear a positive and tangible impact on the lives of the youth in our city.”
Each year, BGCMA locations in DeKalb and Gwinnett serve more than 4,400 youth through quality programs focusing on health, education, and employability and leadership development.

Herman Cain to Speak at Salvation Army Breakfast
Herman Cain will be the featured guest speaker during The Salvation Army’s annual Doing The Most Good Breakfast on Wednesday, October 24, beginning at 8 am at 3455 Sugarloaf Parkway. Funds raised by this special event will support the Catherine Booth Parenting Institute, which provides various classes, study groups and mentoring/advocacy programs to needy families throughout Gwinnett County.

14th Annual Folk Fest
Folk Fest returns this August to Gwinnett County with 75,000 square feet of galleries and dealers from all over the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe.
In addition to being able to see and buy the best selection of Folk Art ever assembled under one roof, visitors will also have the rare opportunity to meet these legendary artists at the nowfamous Meet-the-Artist Opening Night Party. At past Folk Fests, the public shopped for museumquality folk art, found hidden treasures and collected a signature and a sermon from Georgia’s own King of Folk Art, the late Rev. Howard Finster. The Folk Fest is August 17, 18 and 19 at the North Atlanta Trade Center in Norcross.

Gwinnett Chamber Ranks Among Top Three Chambers in the U.S.
The American Chamber of Commerce Executives has announced that the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce is one of three finalists competing for the National Chamber of the Year Award in the Over $1 Million Category. It is the nation’s only award that recognizes the dual role chambers have in creating both leading businesses and communities.
The Chamber will be competing against Greater Louisville (KY) Inc., the Metro Chamber of Commerce, and the Charleston (SC) Metro Chamber of Commerce for the nation’s top honor. The winner will be announced during ACCE’s Annual Awards Gala to be held August 3.
The Gwinnett Chamber was selected based on its success in community leadership and organizational strength, and being among the top in the nation for financial and membership growth. The Chamber has also made a demonstrable impact on key community priorities in areas like economic opportunities, education, transportation, healthcare, and cultural vitality.
Wild Night Planned to Benefit Gwinnett Seniors
Leave the ordinary behind and step into the rainforest complete with wild animals, exotic drinks, jungle music and help senior citizens at the same time. Support the fifth annual silent auction, hosted by the Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services (FOGCSS) entitled “A Night in The Wild.”
Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett will host the event Friday, July 26 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm.
FOGCSS will use all proceeds to benefit the senior citizens of Gwinnett County. Delmar Gardens is located at 3100 Club Drive in Lawrenceville.
The auction will feature items and services donated by local businesses and individuals along with live music, dance, tropical drinks and assorted exotic foods.

Book Lovers - A Festival Just for You
The Gwinnett County Public Library will present the first annual Gwinnett Reading Festival on Saturday, October 20, at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. The event is free to the public and will take place from 10 am to 4 pm.
The Gwinnett Reading Festival will be an event for all ages to promote the Gwinnett County Public Library, books and a love of reading. The event will feature approximately thirty local, regional and national authors.
The Festival will also feature workshops, panel discussions, storytellers, a coffee shop, food, music, activities for children and teens, displays, educational vendors, a bookstore provided by

Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk
Many local teams are training for the upcoming Breast Cancer 3-Day walk, October 12-14, and one Gwinnett team plans to host a local event to help raise funds. The Tutus for Tatas, a group of men and women from the Dacula/ Lawrenceville area, will host their second annual “A Taste of Hope” fashion show and luncheon featuring entertainment, breast cancer info and a silent and live auction August 25 at First Baptist Church, Sugar Hill. Dillards Mall of Georgia will provide the fashions and all models are Breast Cancer survivors. TV personality Denny Moore will be the Master of Ceremonies. Tutus for Tatas has joined forces in a mutual commitment to pursue an eventual and ultimate cure for Breast Cancer. They raised over $217,000 last year making them the number one team in Georgia and in the top five fundraising teams nationwide. Their goal for 2007 is to surpass that number.
